Mixed Media Memories

I have two kids -- a five and four year old. The oldest asked if she could have an 'art book' like mine. How can I resist?

She knows how to use an old gift card to spread paint.
a new use for an old card

She likes to use markers and watercolors.
two watercolor pages waiting...

She demonstrated to me yesterday that she knows how to use a brayer to adhere paper.

She specifically asked if she could use the umbrella from a snow cone for her artwork. She added the letters after she saw me writing on my journal art pages.
one of my favorite pages she created
I told her that after she creates more pages that we will add the holes and put it all together. It makes me so happy to see her wanting to do 'artwork' like momma and seeing her pieces next to mine. What great memories.

QUESTION: What is your favorite creative medium?

Linking up to Jenny Matlock for the letter M.

Oh man...that's really awesome! I'm SO happy that she has a mom like you, and that you have a kid like her! That's amazing to think about, isn't it?

It's so wonderful that your kids are so creative and are learning so much from you! I actually had to look up what a brayer is so your daughter knows lots more than I do! :) She is doing a wonderful job with her journal pages too!

What fun! I have made ACEOs with my two older grandchildren and we all had so much fun. Unless I am coloring with the little ones (grins) watercolor is my absolute favorite creative medium.

Children doing artwork really excites me. With cutbacks and such in the public school system it scares me that it will be a lost craft. You can tell her I love her work! I love photography and believe that my short stories are the closest that I can come to my enjoyable art that I do. I love paintings and such but sadly I don't have the talent to create what I see in my mind.

I'm so glad that you are giving your daughter these opportunities to explore art. Once she gets older, art will become more directed, maybe less enjoyable in a school setting. Hopefully she'll have instructors with an open attitude!
